Description

Ciel du Cheval first planted Petit Verdot in 2000. Typically Petit Verdot is blended with other Bordeaux grape varieties in order to add structure. At Ciel it produces a wine that can stand by itself, with an intense fruitiness and a clear presentation of the site's terroir. This Petit Verdot was made with minimal intervention to allow the grapes to naturally show through in the wine. The wine was fermented in open top fermenters then placed in a mix of new (40%)and neutral (60%) French Oak barrels and aged for 22 months.

Deep in color this highly concentrated wine has a nose that exudes black fruits, including blackberries and plums. The fruit is balanced with a touch of oak aroma. The mid-palate is as intense as the nose and the mouthfeel has the dense and supple tannins that are characteristic of Red Mountain. 122 cases produced. 93 pts, Editor's Choice, Wine Enthusiast.
