Dunham Cellars:

Dunham Cellars Using wine grapes from some of the finest Washington vineyards in the Walla Walla, Yakima and Columbia Valleys, Dunham Cellars has established an award-winning reputation for their Dunham Cellars Washington wines. When Eric's first Dunham Cellars vintage, Dunham Cellars 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon was released, it was deemed one of the finest Washington wines by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Subsequent Dunham Cellars vintages and varietals have also earned high marks with both wine writers and consumers. Eric Dunham  shows his artistic side by creating original artworks for all of Dunham Cellars vineyard designated and special wine bottlings.

Dunham Cellars makes its home in a rustic, remodeled World War II era airplane hangar in Walla Walla, and the future looks promising for Dunham Cellars. The family-owned Dunham Cellars winery continues to increase production and wine varietals, and has planted estate vineyards in prime locations around the Walla Walla Valley Appellation. Dunham Cellars wines include Dunham Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Dunham Cellars Syrah, Dunham Cellars Trutina (a Bordeaux style blend),Dunham Cellars Three Legged Red (a red table wine), Dunham Cellars Four Legged White (a Riesling), and the Dunham Cellars "Shirley Mays" Chardonnay, which is dedicated to Eric's grandmother. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this Dunham Cellars wine are donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund the fight against breast cancer.

The only thing that will never change at Dunham Cellars is its winemaking philosophy. Dunham Cellars will continue to produce premium wines through gentle treatment in all phases of the winemaking process. Eric's goal is to bring something to the bottle he enjoys and is proud to hang the Dunham name on.

Dunham Cellars selects the finest Washington wine fruit from several renowned estate vineyards in the Walla Walla and Columbia Valley Appellations. The winery works closely with its farming company, Appellation Management Group directed by Ken Hart, to ensure the Washington wine fruit is of the highest quality. The commitment between grower and winemaker and the quality of these vineyards with their incredible combination of climate, soil and geography allows Dunham Cellars to create wines of structure and balance.

The Walla Walla Valley is a viticultural area of superlatives, not just in terms of the Washington wines it produces, but also in the sense of the geologic events in which it and its soils were created. Dunham Cellars climate could not be more suitable to world-class wine production, as our growing season is long, warm, and virtually devoid of rainfall as a result of the rainshadow effect of the Cascade mountain range. As a result of this, we are able to control the growth of the vines through cautious irrigation of our deep, well-drained soils. These soils were formed approximately thirteen thousand years ago. During this time, a series of enormous floods, known as the 'Bretz' or 'Spokane' floods inundated the Walla Walla Valley as glaciers retreated toward the poles at the end of the last ice age, to an elevation of 1200 feet. The silt deposits left behind by the floods were picked up by the prevailing winds and blown into what are now stunning rolling hills of 'Loess' (pronounced 'luss") which surround the Walla Walla Valley on all sides. At the same time as the floods, Mt. Mazama in Oregon was continually erupting, and the fallout from the explosions gave our soils a relatively high percentage (10-15%) of volcanic glass, which contributes to fertility and excellent water drainage. Dunham Cellars is so lucky to be working in the soils and climate of the Walla Walla Valley, and believe that it is growing, and will continue to grow, some of the finest wine grapes on earth.

Dunham Cellars wines:
Dunham Cellars 2010 CABERNET SAUVIGNON XVI
Pomegranate, rich cherry and dried currants linger with bold but finely finessed tannins.  A merry merger with blackberry cobbler, cassis and a hint of ripe Friar Plum makes a great wine that is even better over the next 10-14 years.
Dunham Cellars 2010 SYRAH

Spicy black cherry cobbler with a lace of crème anglaise, hints of blueberries and toasted coconut.  Rich and bright, with gentle tannins holding it all together.
