Description

Jarvis Cabernet Franc.
Your penchant for the Cabernet Franc varietal will be well rewarded by taking a closer look at the Jarvis Estate production. Cabernet Franc is a traditional French variety that has the same, if not greater status as Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1965 scientist Dr John Gladstones identified the Margaret River as having natural conditions highly favourable for growing Cabernets. He made particular mention of the small sub-region of Bramley, where Jarvis Estate is today located. The estate is also the home of vignerons Matt \. Jackie Jarvis and all of the fruit used in the wine was grown on the home vineyard. the vintage proved to be a challenging year for Margaret River vignerons with a very cool summer. A deliberate reduction in cropping levels and a burst of autumn sunshine allowed for intense flavour packed fruit to be harvested. Rich ruby in colour this wine has lifted raspberry, blackcurrant, cherry and floral notes on the nose as well as a slight savouriness and lifted oak. As the wine opens up it develops more complex aromas of eucalyptus and liquorice. The palate is soft and rounded with integrated oak, cherries, blood plum and raspberry flavours providing a long and persistent finish. This wine is drinking very well now but will also reward patient cellaring for 10+ years.
92 Points. Wine Enthusiast. Cabernet Franc is a difficult variety on its own, but Jarvis does an excellent job. This is still quite tannic, with a hard, astringent mouth feel to the cherry, blackberry and dark-chocolate flavors. Give this a few more years of aging, although it doesn't seem like a long term ager.
Jarvis Cabernet Franc
93 Points. Gold Medal. Beverage Testing Institute. Deep garnet black color. Subtly expressive aromas and flavors of white clay, gherkin, craisin, and chocolate nuts with a satiny, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a tangy pomegranate, dolmades, cedar, mocha, and delicate brown spice nuanced finish. Impressively layered, savory, and flavorful. Pair with prime rib or elk.
