Vintage 2017

Woodward Canyon Estate Old Vine Cabernet.
While there are many 'great' wines being produced in Washington today, you can count on one hand the number of wines made exclusively from the state's two oldest and most pioneering vineyards; Champoux Block 1 and Sagemoor. Both planted in the early 1970's, they are once again the wellspring for the incomparable Old Vines cuvee from Woodward Canyon. Boasting 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine shows the power and finely structured muscle of the 2007 season which featured no heat spikes and great flavor development from a harvest that stretched into October. As is always the case with these old vines, yields were low and quantities are meager. VERY LIMITED.

This 'Old Vines' Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and complex yet shows the sophistication, balance and structure that come from decades of working with the same fabulous vineyards. Can I say sense of place? It expresses the purity and typicity of fully mature cabernet sauvignon that can only be achieved from old vine fruit. The color is dark purple and the aromas are of earth, spice, black fruits, leather and mocha. Flavors of black fruits and cassis blend beautifully with the exotic spice of new oak. The texture is soft but firm with beautifully integrated tannins offering a rich, lingering finish. With proper storage this wine should easily age for twelve years or more.

Bottle Size: .750

Earned an 'Outstanding' rating in Wine Press Northwest's Fab Cab judging.Owner/Winemaker Rick Small continues a tradition of great Cab dating back to his first vintage in 1981. His latest effort opens with aromas of cloves, leather and oak with bold, mouth-filling l\flavors of blueberries and blackberries. A brash wine with plenty of depth.

Platinum Medal

Owner/winemaker Rick Small's most famous wine is his Old Vines Dedication Series Cab. Made since the winery's inaugural vintage in 1981, each release honors a Walla Walla Valley pioneer. This shows off aromas of coffee, vanilla and ripe blackberries and complex flavors of mint, black cherries and earthy midtones. Its underlying jammy viscosity gives it approachability in its youth, yet its well-structured acidity will help it age for a decade or more.
